Once again the Ashbourne Festival team are staging their Lantern Procession on the opening evening of the town’s Christmas weekend. Many people have supported this event in previous year’s by making and carrying lanterns, but if this is the first time that you would like to get involved, here is what you need to know.

Two workshops are being run this year, come along and make a basic pyramid lantern or similar, you don’t have to carry your lantern in the procession, but it would be great if you could. The workshops (dates, times and venues above) are very popular and advance booking is essential. We can only accommodate so many makers and have a lower age limit as we want to be sure that everyone has the best possible experience on the day.

BOOKING WORKSHOP PLACES

Email us at info@ashbournefestival.org stating your preferred workshop date. Tell us who is coming and if relevant, the age of children under 18. We have set a minimum age of Year 5 for U18’s and they must be accompanied by an adult. it would also be useful if all lantern makers could bring their own lunch.

CARRYING LANTERNS

There are always spare lanterns that need carriers and we would like to hear from both adults and (once again) older children who can help us. If you would like to be involved, email us at info@ashbournefestival.org with your names and ages (U18’s only). Timings for the procession are 5.30pm – 6.00pm at Church to collect your lantern and at 6.30pm everyone leaves to walk to the Market Place.
