Spirit of the Carnival
Sunday 18 June from 11.00am – 12.00 midday
From Church Street to Market Place
Adding to the vibrancy and fun of Streetfest weekend, there will be a carnival procession in the spirit of Latin America and the Caribbean all ready to liven up the Sunday morning of Streetfest weekend in Ashbourne. In the weeks leading up to the procession several local schools will be working with professional artists, making costumes and silk banners for the procession. A samba band will join them as will Nottingham-based carnival company Can Samba, 3 giant bird puppets from City Arts and carnival costumes from Derby Caribbean Carnival plus many local young people from community groups. We also have 6 costumes for mobility scooters, so if you have one join in.
Anyone can join in the procession and of course, everyone can watch it. Dig out that embarrassing holiday shirt and hat and join in on Sunday 18 June.
The procession and school workshops are organised by City Arts, Nottingham and silk artists Kinetika. We are very grateful to the Arts Council of England for funding for the project.
