The Ashbourne Half Marathon
Run through fabulous Derbyshire Dales scenery so beloved by Jane Austen film makers. The Ashbourne Half Marathon is a race with views to lift the spirits, vigorous climbs and fast down-hills. A beautiful but challenging one lap course out into the Peak District and Dove Dale before returning to the historic market town of Ashbourne.
The race village is on the Ashbourne Recreation Ground, near to the town centre.
The route heads out of town towards Thorpe via two long hills, passing Dovedale and Thorpe Cloud, crossing the Dove and Manifold rivers, past Ilam and up to Blore (take a second to take in the view of Dovedale and Thorpe Cloud from the top). This is the last hill. From there a long downhill section leads to Okeover Park and a final stretch back into the centre of Ashbourne to finish at the recreation ground where you can get a drink, some food, and relax in the Park.
The 5k Run in the Park
Why not bring your family for the 5k Run in the Park, which starts shortly after the half marathon. This is a “fun run” but it is chip timed, properly marshalled, friendly and safe. £3 per runner or £10 for four or more from the same family.
The Picnic in the Park
Following on from the race is Picnic in the Park – the last event of the Ashbourne Festival where there is fun and entertainment for the whole family and all are welcome to join in this free event.
